Online Speed Dating
In the realm of video speed dating, speeddate says is advertising itself as first, but WooMe and crazyblinddate have been around for a while (I wrote about it).
Update: Speeddate has been around the longest.
Question: Does going on a date still exist? Or has it moved to a point where people want to speed up things by online profiles, friends’ recomendations, and video-dating?
If people are being judged by what they project their ideal self to be, similar to sugar-coating the truth in a resume, then what are we really judging? Not a person’s real self, which they hide to maintain dignity, but instead the person’s superhero alterego, with the kriptonite thrown in because a little bit of vulnerability is sexy.
Has transparency of self resulted in secrecy of who we really are? (Similar to O’neill’s argument)
The real winner in any online dating site will be those who can integrate the existing popular social networks, and let people know that who they are is a hell of a lot sexier than who they are pretending to be. This success will be judged by more than profit.
